We went to see Father Christmas.
People have asked about Christmas here.
We don't see as many houses decorated on the outside as in the US. There might be a strand of lights around the inside window. Occasionally you will see lights around a tree. It could be because electricity here is tricky to manage.
If there are candle light in the window, this is the only type I have seen
As with any holiday, food is a major part of it. I am not sure if there is one traditonal meal but turkey is definately a part of it. I imagine like anywhere, families have their traditions. Stuffing seems to be often done in small pieces like meatball size or small muffin tins. I am not sure how it is cooked. Mincemeat pies are big. I never cared for them till I had one here. They are done in small size about the size of cupcake. They are excellent. I think they also have liquer in them which gives an extra zip. Maybe that is why they are small. There is also a type of pudding which we would probably describe as more of a dense cake. Again the one I had was excellent and it had liquer in it plus it was suggested to pour small amount on top. That was excellent too.
Day after Christmas is Boxing Day which is equally as important. Places like the grocerys are closed. The tradition came from years ago, servants at the estate houses were given a box of food day after Christmas as a gift. I don't know if this is true but read it was often left overs of the family Christmas meal. They also might have been given some money.
The other thing people do on Christmas and Boxing day is a family walk. It will be in their neighborhood or go to a favorite park for a walk. I read someplace was even taking reservations for this walk.
I have several books with maps of local paths to take and sites you will see along the way. I am hoping we can explore some of these while Stan is off for the holidays. Today we are heading to park mainly to revisit Winnie the Poohs Hundred Acre Wood that Lauren loved so much. It also has a nice hour long hike through the woods that the girls and I did before.
